I was a poet once
greeting the rain as though she were a old friend
letting her laughter trickle down into the warmth of my protection
I was a lover once
lying in the sun with ease
allowing the heat to caress my cheek
with eyes closed in serendipitous rapt
I was a dreamer once
my eyes searching the heavens
for glimmering stars
falling from their places
with deep breathes they jump from their ledges of fear
I was a sage once
aware of the pulsing sensate world
scribbling axioms and cryptic verse
capturing the hallowed in the banal
I was a genius once
creating with voracious appetite
knowing the impermanency of time and space
aware of the drive to forge the raw steel of it all
before the blindness that befalls the blank slate overtakes
